Executive Director (Full-Time/Part-Time)
Location: Austin, TX
Commitment: 20-25 hours per week transitioning to full time
Salary: $120-140K (annualized, full-time)
Overview
BioAustinCTX is a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening the life sciences ecosystem in Austin and Central Texas by fostering connections, collaboration, and industry growth. We are seeking an accomplished and visionary Executive Director to lead our organization, expand membership, and elevate BioAustinCTX as the region’s premier life sciences industry network.
This role requires a seasoned leader with deep expertise in the life sciences, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical technology, or healthcare innovation sectors. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in industry development, business strategy, sponsorship and stakeholder engagement, with a proven ability to scale sponsorship and membership organizations and drive impact.
This is a part-time position transitioning to a full-time position.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Industry Development
- Co-develop (with the BoD) and implement a long-term strategy to position BioAustinCTX as a key hub for the biotech, medtech, pharma, and life sciences industry in Central Texas.
- Engage actively with life science investors, service providers, developers, policymakers, academia, and private businesses to drive regional ecosystem growth.
- Identify opportunities for regional and national collaborations to enhance Austin’s standing as a life sciences innovation center.
- Advocate for the industry, serving as a thought leader and public-facing representative for BioAustinCTX.
Membership Growth & Stakeholder Engagement
- Develop and execute a comprehensive membership strategy focused on recruitment, retention, and expanding engagement among life sciences professionals, startups, and established firms.
- Cultivate relationships with senior executives, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, academic/research institutions, regional economic development organizations, potential sponsorship partners, and government agencies.
- Act as the primary point of contact for members, ensuring strong connections and industry-relevant value delivery.
Operational & Financial Oversight
- Lead fundraising, sponsorship acquisition, and grant-seeking efforts to ensure financial sustainability.
- Manage BioAustinCTX’s budget, financial planning, and nonprofit compliance in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
- Oversee administrative functions, including marketing, communications, and event logistics.
- Prioritize time and efforts for maximum impact on organizational goals.
Program Development & Event Oversight
- Oversee the planning and execution of high-impact networking events, industry roundtables, and educational programs tailored to life sciences professionals.
- Secure top-tier speakers, sponsors, and strategic partnerships to strengthen programming.
- Expand BioAustinCTX’s reach and value through workshops, mentorship programs, and business development initiatives.
- Build and maintain a robust network of innovators, investors, academic leaders, and service providers to accelerate partnerships and drive industry growth in the region.
Qualifications

Required
- A minimum of 15 years of leadership experience in life sciences, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical technology, healthcare innovation, industry organizations, or related fields
- Proven success in strategic planning, business development, and ecosystem-building within the bio, medtech & health or life sciences sector
- Experience leading or managing industry associations, nonprofit organizations, or membership-based entities
- Strong fundraising, partnership development, and sponsorship acquisition capabilities
- Exceptional relationship-building skills with the ability to engage executive leadership, policymakers, and investors
- Deep understanding of industry trends, challenges, and opportunities in biotech, pharma, medtech, and healthcare
- Highly organized, entrepreneurial, and results-driven, with the ability to lead independently while collaborating with a volunteer Board
Preferred
- Experience in economic development, public-private partnerships, or industry advocacy
- Familiarity with Central Texas’ life sciences ecosystem or established regional network
- Previous experience working with or serving on a nonprofit Board of Directors
- Background in launching or scaling membership-based initiatives or programming
