SPOTLIGHT

Are you interested in engaging with tomorrow’s young scientists?
Sign up to judge projects at the Greater Austin Regional Science and Engineering Fair (formerly known as the Austin Energy Regional Science Festival).
The Greater Austin Regional Science and Engineering Fair (GARSEF) is a multi-day educational showcase where participating students can present their STEM projects, compare their work to that of their peers, interact with professionals in their field of interest and get new ideas. It validates the students’ efforts and recognizes them for the time and energy spent on projects outside their regular classroom assignments.

GARSEF covers 14 counties with 30 school districts plus private charter and home schools. Students in grades 3-12 who win at their schools’ science fairs are eligible to participate. We hold two distinct competitions: the Junior/Senior (middle/high school) and the Elementary Fair.

In the Junior and Senior Divisions, students enter their projects in one of 18 science categories and are judged competitively by subject matter experts. Judges work in teams to interview students and select winners by consensus. Winners from both divisions advance to the state competition and top high school projects qualify for the international fair.

In the Elementary fair, each project is judged on its own merit.

GARSEF judging takes place on Thursday, February 22, 2024. Orientations are offered in the weeks prior to the fair. For more information, and to register, go to https://austinscience.org/judgeor contact[email protected]

Ingrid Weigand is also available to talk to interested groups about getting involved in GARSEF, either through in-person presentations or via Zoom.
Also, if you would like to help BioAustinCTX judge for a special award, please contact [email protected]
