SPOTLIGHT

The Central Texas Life Science Community Honors Jack Hart

Jack was an amazing mentor and pioneer for Austin’s MedTech community. I so appreciated his humor, intelligence, drive, and insights. I’ll remember fondly the early morning breakfasts and BBQ luncheons to discuss next steps for Texas Medical Device Alliance (TMDA) for which he founded, and he entrusted to me. Jack frequently mentioned his loving family and I know they were dear to him. We’ve lost an amazing soul.  (by Elisa Maldonado-Holmertz)

Jack’s Obituary

Jack Donald Hart “Papa”, 79, of Austin passed away on August 24, 2023. He was born on November 26, 1943 in Dallas, Texas to his parents Herman Hart and Ondee Dorough Hart. He was born and raised in Dallas, lived briefly in Washington D.C. and then moved to Austin in 1976 until his death.
Jack attended Kimball High School, graduating in 1962, then attended The University of Texas at Austin from 1962-1970, earning a PHD in Aerospace Engineering. He was also a 4 year letterman in track, specializing in the 800 meter run, which he could easily run in under 2 minutes.

Jack provided decades of service to the engineering and biomedical community. He worked for the CIA for 7 years in the early 1970s in Washington DC, then moved to Austin in 1976 and continued to work for the intelligence and engineering community for the next 25 years at Radian Corporation, then worked for the Department of Biomedical Engineering at UT Austin before joining the Temple Health and Bioscience Economic Development District in Temple, TX (2011-2017) which he was very proud of. He also founded the Texas Medical Device Alliance, a major contribution to the Biotech and medical device community. While working at The University of Texas at Austin, he had a strong passion to help students, providing networks and job placement for countless students graduating from the Biomedical Engineering School.

Jack loved golf, fishing, hiking, and trips to the beach. He had 3 beloved Golden Retrievers over the years – Chuck, Nancy, and Jake. He had a passion for handiwork and woodwork. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He was the most supportive, selfless and loving person a family could ask for. His favorite thing to do was spend time with his family, especially his grandkids who he adored more than anything.
He is survived by his wife Janet Hart, his children, Susan Hart, Bradley Hart, and David Hart and daughter n law Amy Hart. His grandchildren, Lucas and Annabelle Hart. His two brothers, Ralph Hart and w Char Hart and Bill Hart and w Paula Hart.

Services will be held on Thursday August 31, 2023. Visitation from 9:00am-10:00am and funeral service at 10:00am at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home, 5416 Parkcrest Drive, Austin, TX-78731.
