Fall 2024 BioBash SAVE THE DATE – November 12

BioAustinCTX is pleased to announce the Fall 2024 BioBash event will be co-sponsored by the Austin Community College Bioscience Incubator and held in the Paseo Event Center at the ACC Highland Park Campus on November 12, 2024.   Registration opens on Wednesday October 2 on the BioAustinCTX website.  We are anticipating record breaking attendance at this BioBash event and attendees will have the opportunity to network with industry peers, get the latest updates on life science industry developments in Central Texas and tour the ACC Bioscience Incubator facility.

Come tour the ACC Bioscience Incubator (ABI) – Austin’s only leasable wet lab space. In the 8+ years that ABI has been operational, we have incubated over 40 early-stage companies in the life science industry and supported ACC students with over 60 internships.

This tour is open to all featuring the history and operation of ABI. Gain insight into commercialization for biotechnology and see how ABI have driven innovation in the local life sciences ecosystem

The Ken Kennedy Institute at Rice University invites you to the 3rd annual AI in Health Conference on September 9-12, 2024.  Join in on discussions with researchers, clinicians, and engineers utilizing artificial intelligence to influence real-world health outcomes and improve patient care. The conference — held in Houston, TX at Rice University’s BRC — includes panels, technical talks, an exhibit hall, networking receptions, poster presentations, add-on workshops, and invited speakers from All of Us, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, CPRIT, Georgia Tech, and Rice University.

For 18 years, the BioMedSA Award for Innovation in Healthcare and Bioscience has celebrated local and national innovators in the healthcare and bioscience industry. This year we are celebrating the innovative work of Jason McLellan, Ph.D., Professor of Molecular Biosciences at the University of Texas at Austin, whose method for engineering key proteins is an integral part of vaccine development for Ebola, RSV, and SARS-CoV-2.

THBI Fall Policy Summit and Luminary Awards Dinner

The Fall Policy Summit will feature informative panel presentations highlighting the Life Sciences IMPACT. Following, the Luminary Awards Dinner will be a special evening with guest speaker Dr. Ray Perryman, who will share his recent work on the value of life science industry. The evening will close with the presentation of the Luminary Awards, THBI’s highest honor for individuals who have IMPACTED the life science industry through policy and public service.

The IBE Entrepreneurship Program has been helping entrepreneurs advance their ideas since 2016. This five day experiential learning program combines classroom work with 1:1 advising sessions to refine your pitch with the last day dedicated to pitching your project to a panel of investors. The program also provides a behavioral assessment and personalized feedback session to advance your skills as a leader.

STEM Muse Seeking Mentors

STEM Muse is a mentorship network designed to support women and people with genders underrepresented in STEM. We offer undergraduate students, graduate students, post-doctoral researchers, and research staff the opportunity for one-on-one mentorship from academic and industry leaders.

We are seeking mentors who are professionals with a STEM education or people currently in a STEM-related career: undergraduate students in their 3rd year or later, grad students, postdocs, research staff, faculty, and professionals from industry. We welcome mentors of any gender, and being local/in Austin is not required.

The 6-month Fall 2024 program includes:

-A flexible, low-commitment meeting schedule: pairs meet once per month for 6 months at your convenience and in the format of your choosing (in person or virtually).
-Optimized matching: mentees select their mentors, improving everyone’s experience
-Opportunities to be mentored by and network with industry professionals
-Training, email drafts, and conversation guides to ensure smooth interactions and discussions relevant to the mentee’s career journey

• Determines grant proposal concept by identifying and clarifying opportunities and needs, studying requests for grant proposals (RFPs), and attending strategy meetings.
• Prepares grant proposals by determining concept, gathering and formatting information, writing drafts, and finalizing.
